How to be Glamorous on a Budget
Hello! Welcome to our maiden voyage on the endless seas of style!
WOW! Was that the corniest thing you've heard all day? Yep, me too…and I was
the one who wrote it! (Imagine that).
Now a lot of you are new to us, but some of you have decided to stick around
and see what other ideas may pop into our crazy minds. No matter if you’re new
and blue or old and true, we welcome you to our new home. OMG!!! This journey
might be shorter than anticipated if I keep spouting out rhymes like that.
Anywho, as some of you know we used to be the Poets Formerly Known as The Cotton Diaries (Hail Prince), but now
we are Hairspray & Rollers. Now as I stated in the last official post of
The Cotton Diaries, we have decided to not quit, but rather shift our focus on
a wider spectrum. We want to empower ALL women (and possibly some men) to feel and look the way they want in order
to achieve maximum feelings of happiness. We will be showing different ways of
getting products that you thought you could never afford or simply didn't think
said product would work for you. All the products that we get will either be
displayed here or for more in depth and/or visual needs on our Youtube channel Hairspray & Rollers. Now
that I have officially bored you to death, I will tell you the real reason you’re
here. If any of you binge watch Youtube like you do Orange is the New Black,
then you will know, that one of the most popular sectors of Youtube is makeup
and fashion. Now you could be a late bloomer like me and didn't really get into
makeup until later in life or you could be a fresh-faced teen looking to start
using makeup for a more grown-up look, whatever the case, I’m a firm believer
in the motto “When you look your best, you feel your best.” Now here’s where the gap occurs. On Youtube,
you’ll see all these beautiful women making themselves even more beautiful and
they’re using all these expensive products and foreign designer names and quite
frankly by the time the sped up version of the “tutorial” is done, you’re more
confused and frustrated than before you watched it. Then there’s the case of
how can I afford these products on a small or limited budget? One thing you
should know is that most of the items that these Youtubers are showing/using
were given to them free of charge. I’m not saying everybody gets free products
but the majority of the medium to large subscriber-based Youtubers are getting
these products either from beauty conventions, fans/subscribers, or directly
from the cosmetic companies. I only have a small blog, but I receive tons of
products to test and/or review. Don’t be discouraged! I am going to give some
tips on how to get products to either start your makeup collection or to sample
products before you buy them.
1. Ask for samples
You can sign up for sites that send emails
letting you know where to get free samples
You can email companies requesting samples
Look for smaller/startup companies that are
looking for free publicity
2. Swatches
Go to department stores and swatch, swatch,
swatch!
Ask for samples from makeup counters
Ask if the makeup counter offers free
makeovers
Make a day out of looking for new products
to try
3. Youtube
Look for videos from people with similar
skin tones and see if they are doing giveaways or decluttering
Ask for details in their comments, what shade their using, and best places to purchase
4. Instagram
There are tons of giveaways on Instagram
Follow different makeup/cosmetic companies
to see products that may interest you
Check for links back to their site and send an email asking to review for them
5. Facebook
There are so many sites that offer
giveaways on their Facebook pages just for liking their page
Look for contests on their page
6. Coupons
Check for Manufacture’s coupons and store
coupons. If you shop sale items along with a coupon you can possibly get it
completely free and earn points toward getting other free products (great for
drugstore brands)
